ASPECT OF TENSION
DESCRIPTION
The Aspect of Tension is a strange, alien being who rides the line between corporeal and immaterial, seeming to defy basic laws of physics while simultaneously possessing attributes of a physical thing. It is uncertain what it is precisely, only that it appears where stress and uncertainty run rampant. The design itself is based on an old, abstract creature sketch I did a a few years prior to making it into a full 3D asset.

Consistent with the creepy, otherworldly aesthetic, I made an NPC blueprint in Unreal Engine 5 which simply floats and stares, and when you stare directly back, transports you to another dimension: a simple, infinite hallway in the void. You may also notice that when you look away from it, it disappears and reappears in another random designated location (although there were only 2 potential locations on this test map).

I had originally created this blueprint before Control Rig existed, so I created an "aim-constraint" type setup in the blueprint by doing a little vector math to calculate a target head rotation.

I also had done a short animation test which I believe fits the overall vibe of this entity. I was particularly pleased with how the iridescence of its "metallic" body parts turned out.
